Let Your Heart Be Light!!!!

Lights, lights and more lights. Such is the sight that beholds folks as they make their way through the malls and other public places. Some individuals go the extra mile by decorating their homes with tons of light. I heard on the news recently that a particular home used over a million lights for their extravagant Christmas light competition. I’m not sure I would survive in a home or space with million lights (lol) but there is something to be said about light.

Whether it be in the literal meaning of the word or when used metaphorically, the term “Light” connotes clarity, hope, guidance, deliverance and relief. When someone says that they can now see the “light at the end of the tunnel”, they are simply indicating that they begin to envision the end/solution to a long awaited hardship or issue.

In a sense, this is what Christmas, the birth of Christ, means for this world.. Although the historical facts indicate that Jesus was not born on December 25th, there is no denying that he was born at some point. His presence on earth marked the beginning of the physical manifestation of God’s redemption plan. I guess it’s safe to say that the birth of Christ was the light at the end of tunnel of worry, defeat, hopelessness and death.

But for Christ, the world would have continued to remain in darkness with no hope in sight. I can’t even begin to imagine what the world would have looked like without Christ.

So as we celebrate and relish in the joy of the season, let’s remind ourselves that we have hope because we received light in the form of Christ’s birth. More importantly, we must pass on this light to others through what we say and do. So I urge us all to let our hearts be light; let us showcase the goodness of God’s grace and mercy in our hearts and through our actions. Have a Merry Christmas.

I end with the lyrics of the song by one of my favorite Christian Artistes; Francesca Battistelli.

Messiah

Long awaited precious promise Son of God and son of man Heaven’s glory in a manger Has come to us in Bethlehem

Messiah Messiah A baby born to save us all Messiah Messiah On our knees we fall

All we longed for, all we needed Shining in this child’s eyes Hope forever, death defeated Because of this one holy night

Messiah Messiah A baby born to save us all Messiah Messiah On our knees we fall

O come let us adore him O come let us adore…
