This Festive Season

When I was younger, I loved Christmas for 2 mains reasons; food and new clothes. It  might seem trivial to most but having food and good clothes meant everything to me. I also looked forward to the festive season because it brought hope not only to me but everyone around. The community came together and it was not unusual to pop into a neighbors house uninvited only to be served a specially made Jollof Rice with Fanta, Mascatella, Coke or Sprite. It was a very special time.

Now that I’m much older, I still look forward to Christmas albeit for different reasons. I love the holiday season more now because I get a much needed time off from work, and I seize the opportunity to reflect on my goal and psych myself up in anticipation of the new year. It’s like getting a new lease of life. Additionally, I understand better the essence of the season, and the message of hope, life and joy that it brings. It’s even more amazing that people all over the world from different faiths and demographics recognize this season of tranquility.

I don’t know what you look forward to most during this time but whatever it is, I hope it brings you inner peace and true joy.
